The Little Sea Horse - A Review

Good morning. I climbed out of my lovely comfy nest of straw about an hour ago, but I still haven’t even washed my ears, because I had such a good book to read. :)

This was it!

Review

For children, age 5-8 perhaps, *The Little Sea Horse* by Helen Cresswell (ISBN: 0-340-63461-8.)

It’s all about a girl called Molly Flower and a little enchanted horse that comes out of the sea. Molly’s father is a fisherman and he has found the sea horse caught up in his net! It is really tiny and is pure white, with hooves of gold!

The townspeople want to put the sea horse in a cage, but Molly knows that that is not right… She and her friend Peter have to go on a dangerous journey to the lighthouse to see if they can find help.

This is an extract from the book:

Seagulls whirled in circles on the wind in their wake, screaming uneasily.

Once they were out of the shelter of the bay the sea became rougher and the wind fresher, whipping up the waves in green ringlets and blowing the salt spray on to their faces.

All the time the pointing finger of the lighthouse loomed up larger. Soon they could see the white surf simmering round the sharp rocks on which the lighthouse stood…

And then they saw someone standing there! Who was it? And what was lying deep down in the sea? You’ll have to read the book and find out!

There are lots of good pictures and it is a very original story.

I did enjoy that book! Now I’m going to go and wash my ears and have a nice healthy salad for breakfast. I might just stop on the way and have a look at another wonderful book that has just come into our bookshop. It’s about the kings and queens of England, with lots of pictures. I can imagine I’m a queen! I don’t know how I’d fit a crown round my ears though!

I’ll be back next week, with more news for you, and reviews of books for other ages. I’ll tell you about some of my adventures too. It’s quite exciting round here, with lots of other animals and people who are mostly friendly…. But not all of them… :(   One is really scary! I’ll tell you next week.

Bye bye.

Love Ziggy. xxx
